rivers and roads, rivers 'til I reach you π
i am listening to rivers and roads by the head and the heart, as i write this letter to you
sorry, i missed writing to you - the last month, like the industry - my health has been grim and i am only recovering. itβs interesting to note how the entire narrative of the start up world has changed in the last quarter from growth at all costs to profits.
if you read reports from top publications which earlier never mentioned profit as a metric, have now started to report EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortization) as a key metric in all there graphs.
overall the funding scenario over the past three months have been stable, no growth - no decline, indian startups raised 3.4 billion usd in the last quarter of fy 22-23.
d2c segment has been on top of the list, with 45 deals. saas & fintech, second and third on the funding list respectively.
some of the interesting early stage deals included: t.a.c (the ayurveda co.), gynoveda, one impression (influencer marketing platform) - the good part is that ayurveda is getting recognition and growth in the space is gradually increasing.
one of my favorite discovery for the last quarter has been βsoul upβ a peer-to-peer network, a platform where one can connect with like-minded individuals.
with urban loneliness seeping in, mental health concerns have increased. with a strong positive movement around seeking professional help - the need to build support systems outside the therapy room is also critical.
soul up as a platform helps you connect with peers who have had similar experiences like you.
thatβs all for this month, see you in may!
